What is a SOCKS Proxy?
SOCKS (Socket Secure) proxies operate at a lower layer than HTTP proxies, routing all network traffic through the proxy server regardless of the application protocol. SOCKS5, the latest version, supports both TCP and UDP connections, making it ideal for torrenting, gaming, streaming, and any application that needs reliable tunneling.
Unlike HTTP proxies that only handle web traffic, SOCKS proxies can tunnel any type of internet traffic. SOCKS4 supports only TCP connections without authentication, while SOCKS5 adds UDP support, authentication options, and IPv6 compatibility.
